Overcoming Hopelessness

What do I have to live for?

What was my hope built on?

Things - Stuff can be stolen, burned, destroyed in a hurricane or just lost.  No material possession in my life can provide a foundation. (See Matthew 6:20-21)

People - They let me down.  I even let myself down!  This situation I am in proves that some people cannot be trusted.  Even though I thought everything was going great it has all been destroyed.

Self - Did I really think I was strong enough or important enough to make it in life on my own?  I never thought I would be here!

Is there really anything I can hold on to?

What is the use of even trying????

God is our Rock and Foundation!

David knew first-hand how badly mistakes can change lives because he made several himself.  He did know he had a different foundation.  In 2 Samuel 22:2 (NIV) He said:  “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer,”

God has promised to be with us - always

Hebrews 13:5-6 (NKJV) “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have.  For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”  So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear.  What can man do to me?”

Remember that nothing can separate me from God!

So many “bad” things have come along and so many people have let me down I am almost afraid to trust anyone.  I just need to feel loved again, without any condition attached.

Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV) “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Now what can I do?

Remember I have everything to live for!

My kids need a good stable parent.  My spouse needs me to be strong for them.  My friends need me to be a special friend to help them through though times if they are confronted with a situation like this.  My family needs me to be there for them to give and receive love.  My church needs me to continue as part of them.  My God needs me to worship Him and serve others.

Look up, not in

When I am at the bottom of the pit there is no where but up!  I should have done that earlier but it is not too late yet.  I must see something to live for!

Psalm 121:1 - 2 (NKJV) “I will lift up my eyes to the hills From whence comes my help?  My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.”

Humble myself before God

I know now I not strong enough to define my own future and make it happen.  I also know my Maker knows me very well and wants the best for me.  It is time to put me behind and put Him in front with prayer and study.

1 Peter 5:6-7 (NKJV) “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Use this as a re-building time

This is my time to regroup my thoughts, my relationships, my resources, and my needs.  I will paint an exciting picture of “The New Me” and define for my friends and family how they are a part.  It will be bright, clear, and specific.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

Look beyond myself and help others

I will get charged up and spend my energies on my relationships with my family, even my ex-family, and my kids.  I will go out and have fun again with friends.  I will get involved with serving God through serving others in a special way.

Hebrews 10:23-24 (NKJV) “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.  And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,”

I will look forward to that good which God will work through me!

Romans 8:28 (NKJV) “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

We are here to help you!

John 13:35 (NKJV) “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Please consider our sincere offer to listen, talk, and share concerns about the future as well as an opportunity for Bible study together at any time.
